#### About

The Cognitive Science Society brings together researchers from around the world who hold a common goal: understanding the nature of the human mind. The mission of the Society is to promote Cognitive Science as a discipline, and to foster scientific interchange among researchers in various areas of study, including Artificial Intelligence, Linguistics, Anthropology, Psychology, Neuroscience, Philosophy, and Education.

The Society is a non-profit professional organization and its activities include sponsoring an annual conference and publishing the journals Cognitive Science and TopiCS.

#### Our History

* **Society Creation**
The Society was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit professional organization in Massachusetts in 1979. The organizing committee included Roger Schank, Allan Collins, Donald Norman, and a number of other scholars from psychology, linguistics, computer science, and philosophy.

* **Conference Creation**
The first conference on cognitive science was held at La Jolla, California in August, 1979, and has occurred annually since then. The proceedings of each conference are published, and those from most years are available through Lawrence Erlbaum Associates, Inc. The annual proceedings of the Cognitive Science Conference represent a major source of information on new work and new ideas in the scientific study of thinking. In 1990, the Society, with help from an anonymous donor, established the David Marr Prize for the best student paper at each annual meeting.

* **Journal Creation**
The Journal, Cognitive Science, began publication in 1976, and is now published by Wiley-Blackwell. The Executive Editor is currently Richard P. Cooper of Birkbeck, University of London, and there are 18 Associate Editors and a 30-member editorial board. It serves as the premier outlet for research reports that intersect two or more disciplines. Copyrights for articles published in the journal are held by the Society. The Governing Board of the Cognitive Science Society voted in late 2006 to found a new journal, Topics in Cognitive Science (topiCS). The Editor in Chief is Wayne Gray, Cognitive Science Department, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The journal seeks to fill a niche not occupied by Cognitive Science Journal or other cognitive science journals. Membership in the Society includes a subscription to Cognitive Science and TopiCS. Copyrights for articles published in the journal are held by the Society.

CogSci 2025

The 47th Annual Meeting of the Cognitive Science Society presents the latest research across cognitive science and highlights the theme of Cognition in Context.

webinar

In this special webinar, Dr. Kelly Reynolds, a disease transmission specialist, will share scientific and quantitative data about how infectious germs and viruses are transmitted in the workplace and at home. Dr. Reynolds will provide essential tools and tips, designed specifically for healthcare professionals, of how to stay safe at work while focusing on best practices for infection control. Information shared in this webinar will empower participants to minimize potential health risks to their family members as one considers establishing standard safety practices at home to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Tips for Protecting Your Family

Decontamination of imaging suites is a vital part of maintaining patient and staff safety. This webinar features Mr. John LaRochelle, a 30-year veteran of managing and implementing environmental infection prevention strategies in healthcare facilities around the world. In addition, Dr. Riccardo Manfredi from the Department of Radiology at the Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli in Rome, Italy will provide the perspective of the radiologist and the decontamination practices put in place at his institution, which was one of the primary hospitals for COVID positive patients in Rome.

Decontamination Practices in Radiology

This presentation will provide an update of short- and long-term outcomes of the EP-Guided Noninvasive Cardiac Radioablation (ENCORE-VT) Phase I/II trial, as well as toxicities that have been encountered to date. Additionally there will be a special focus on the workflow for these cases, including patient identification, simulation, target localization, and treatment planning. We will also present future research directions for noninvasive cardiac radioablation.

Noninvasive Cardiac Radioablation: Past, Present, & Future Directions for the Treatment of Ventricular Tachycardia

Following the surge of the COVID-19 pandemic, as everyone begins to move back to the daily business of radiology, it is important to focus on rebuilding patient confidence as one considers how to schedule the elective procedures that were postponed or during this time. This requires determined effort and time including; multiple levels of strategic planning, interdepartmental and facility communications, outbound marketing strategies, and the implementation of a complex plan with clearly defined end goals for success. Safely caring for patients and staff, while managing the positive momentum of “ramping up” is the focus of this webinar.

Considerations for Re-opening Your Radiology Department

In this Expert Forum Webinar we'll be discussing the operational impact of upgrading to a 3T scanner in the MR suite. We'll hear from two experienced administrators from RWJ Barnabas Health Ambulatory Care Center, who's multimodality advanced imaging facility is experiencing dramatic increases in both productivity and utilization, while impacting their bottomline. We'll also hear how they are addressing the backlog of MR procedures as a result of the COVID pandemic.

Increasing MR Operational Efficiency with 3T

Spectral CT brings many advantages that are unavailable with conventional CT. These advantages are always available, regardless of whether it is known if they are even needed before the examination is actually performed. In this webinar, the benefits of spectral CT in improving patient care will be discussed from a diagnostic and workflow perspective, with a particular emphasis on economic benefits.

Improving Patient Care and Realizing Economic Benefits Using Spectral CT

In this educational program, Dr. Lawrence Tanenbaum and Dr. William Baughman provide a comprehensive review of what the COVID-19 virus is, how it’s transmitted, as well as, how it presents clinically on various imaging modalities. Additionally, a review of “real-world” clinical findings of COVID positive patients, who present with additional symptoms that are manifested from coronavirus will be shared. Following the presentations, a moderated discussion will take place where questions from the audience will be addressed.

COVID-19 Facts, Findings, and Imaging Manifestations

A substantial proportion of patients with severe COVID-19 present with coagulation abnormalities which may lead to venous and arterial thromboembolic complications, which, if not properly prevented and/or timely detected can be associated with an increased risk of fatal outcome. This webinar is aimed at summarizing the characteristics of COVID-19 coagulation disorders, the laboratory and clinical findings in affected patients, and the role of the radiologist in the rapid recognition of pulmonary embolism which may properly direct patient management.

COVID-19: Imaging of Thromboembolic Complications

In this Expert Forum Webinar we'll discuss the added value Digital PET/CT is providing physicians at Saint Louis University. Dr. Medhat Osman will cover the limitations of current PET technologies, the benefits of digital photon counting, and the impact digital technology is having on enhancing workflow and reducing radiation dose. Attendees will have a clearer understanding of the potential benefits dynamic PET imaging offers imaging professionals and their patients.

The Added Value of Digital PET/CT: The SLU Experience

This webinar will present a comprehensive review of image findings of varying clinical presentations relating to cardiovascular, abdominal, and neurological findings, resulting from COVID positive cases. Dr. Marco Francone, an Associate Professor of Radiology at Sapienza University of Rome will share his experience with imaging cardiac complications found in COVID-19 patients; while Dr. Jeffrey Hellinger, a Diagnostic Radiologist at Lenox Hill Radiology in New York City will review imaging of other complications seen with COVID-19 patients.
