Dr. Sonwalkar (Sc.D. MIT) will present the background of learning strategies and introduce the assessment instrument for a successful me-learning experience using online resources. The first in our video series about Me-learning! The latest trend in online education is “me-learning.” In this new trend, the learners discover their own personality for learning and pursue their education using online resources. The vast literature of cognitive psychology and learning theories indicated that lea

Dr. Sonwalkar is regarded as a leading expert in the application of computers in education. He has extensive research and development experience in hypermedia authoring, mobile learning, adaptive learning, and brain-based synaptic learning, advanced scientific visualization, database management systems, and computer simulation.

After receiving doctoral degree from MIT in the area of Molecular Dynamics of Nano-interfaces, he joined MIT as faculty in Mechanical Engineering, but his passion for technology enabled education led him become the founding director of Hypermedia Teaching Facility (Hypermedia Lab) at MIT and later he was appointed as the Principal Educational Architect of MIT.

technical paper

Dr. Nish Sonwalkar in summary provides his view that the combination of technology and pedagogy is necessary for the online education. The well designed online adaptive course with sensitivity of the learning strategy, learning media and interactivity can make a big difference in congitive effectiveness of the online courses.

Changing the Interface of Education: Chapter 10 - Epilogue

Dr. Nish Sonwalkar provides three case-studies on the pedagogical experiments that his research group conducted at MIT. The first fluid mechnics hypercourse authored and developed by Dr. Nish Sonwalkar for MIT mechanical engineering department was studied for the impact, the mechanics of materials virtual lab, chemical engineering virtual lab and a study of wireless devices in classroom were analyzed with participation of students and faculty at MIT.

Changing the Interface of Education: Chapter 9 - Pedagogical Experiments

In this video Dr. Nish Sonwalkar presents the learning technology standards that include, IEEE 1484, AICC, ADL-SCORM and few other emerging quality standards for developing online courses. He also presents details on how these standards can be applied to the adaptive online courses.

Changing the Interface of Education: Chapter 8 - Demystifying Learning Technology Standards

The media, model and interactivity are the three sides of the learning cube. The optimization of the learning performance of an individual learner can be achieved by understanding personality type, cognitive psychology based leanring strategies and content sequencing schema for the presentation of multi-media content. Dr. Sonwalkar presenta s framework for the optimization.

Changing the Interface of Education: Chapter 7 - Optimizing Learning Performance

The evaluation of an online learning courses is very different that in-class courses. The multi0-dimenstional quantitative approach is suggested by Dr. Nish Sonwalkar to evaluate pedagogical effectiveness of media, model, and interactivity within an online course by creating a five factored model. The model is able to rate a course on a 4.0 scale by addting various probability distribution functions.

Changing the Interface of Education: Chapter 6 - Evaluation of the Pedagogical Effectiveness

In this presentation Dr. Nish Sonwalkar provides a clear definition of adaptive online educational courses and their essential components. There are four important pillers for an adaptive online course. Dr. Sonwalkar provides a criteria for an effective adaptive learning with -- pedagogical framework of learning cube, dymanic content rendering, real-time analytics and real-time feedback.

Changing the Interface of Education: Chapter 5 - Adaptive Learning

In this presentation Dr. Sonwalkar is describes in details the learning strategies -- apprentice, incidental, inductive, deductive and discovery and how a they can be constructed with proper taxonomy of content elements. Dr. Sonwalkar provides a methodology to ensure learning media, models and interactivity is assembled with proper pedagogical match for the intended outcome.

Changing the Interface of Education: Chapter 4 - Designing Effective Learning with Learning Cube

In this presentation, Dr. Sonwalkar described the pedagogically driven instructional design with congitive learning strategies, taxonomy of the pedapgogical assembly of content elements and assessment framework.

Changing the Interface of Education: Chapter 3 - Pedagogically Driven Instructional Design

In this presentation Dr. Sonwalkar is proposing a revolutionaly learning cube pedagogical framework that includes, three dimensions of learning namely -- learning media -- text, graphics, video, audio, animations; learning strategies -- apprentice, incidental, inductive, deductive and discovery, learning interactivity -- feedback, comments, interactive exercises, animated presentations and simulatons. It is important to understand the assembly of the media, models and interactivity for a target learner community.

Changing the Interface of Education: Chapter 2 - The Learning Cube

In this presentation, Dr. Sonwalkar porposes a compelling argument around rethinking the appropriate use of educational models to better serve the changing interface of education. He further also talks about the concepts of constructivism, cognitivism and behaviourism that have led to the development of the learning cube model and various learning strategies.
