LLM-based agents are increasingly deployed for mental-health support and crisis coun- selling, yet recent evaluations reveal that com- mercial therapy chatbots respond appropriately only about half the time in clinical scenarios. Clinicians and safety engineers are called upon to audit these systems, but existing tools do not surface the subtler psychosocial harms (manip- ulation, discrimination, psychological distress) nor produce the explainable rationales that prac- titioners need. We present DialogGuard, an open-source system that lets practitioners in- spect, stress-test, and create audit trails for prompted LLM agents across five psychosocial safety dimensions. The system wraps around arbitrary generative models through four LLM- as-a-judge pipelines (single-agent scoring, dual- agent correction, multi-agent debate, and ma- jority voting), each grounded in shared three- level rubrics. Through its web interface, practitioners evaluate agents in two modes (Live Chat and Manual Input) and review per- dimension risk scores with natural-language rationales. Experiments on PKU-SafeRLHF show that dual-agent correction provides the best accuracy–robustness trade-off, and a for- mative study with 12 practitioners confirms that the system supports prompt auditing, safety inspection, and supervisory decision-making. It is my great pleasure and honor to welcome you to the 64th Annual Meeting of the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL 2026), held in San Diego, California, USA, July 2–7, 2026. ACL 2026 continues our fields tradition of excellence in scholarship, innovation, and inclusivity, and I am deeply grateful to the many volunteers who have worked tirelessly to bring this event to life.

It is exciting to see the many developments in the field reflected at our conference, such as the advancement of large language models (born out of our community) into many application directions. This is not without challenges, partly due to unsolved problems, and partly due to misuse of the technology. All this is reflected well at ACL 2026. The conference also reflects that the field is not only about advancing technology, but also the science of fundamentally understanding language and how it is use by many different speaker communities.

The 64th Annual Meeting of the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL 2026) will take place in San Diego, California, from July 2 - 7, 2026.

Many disciplines pose natural-language research questions over large document collections whose answers typically requires structured evidence, traditionally obtained by manually designing an annotation schema and exhaustively labeling the corpus, a slow and error-prone process. We introduce ScheMatiQ, which leverages calls to a backbone LLM to take a question and a corpus to produce a schema and a grounded database, with a web interface that lets steer and revise the extraction. In collaboration with domain experts, we show that ScheMatiQ yields outputs that support real-world analysis in law and computational biology. We release ScheMatiQ as open source with a public web interface, and invite experts across disciplines to use it with their own data. G-D6 ScheMatiQ: From Research Question to Structured Data through Interactive Schema Discovery

Scientific AI agents can autonomously carry out complex research workflows, yet these unfolded workflows often remains difficult for humans to inspect and review, limiting interpretable, controllable and effective human–AI collaboration. 
To address this challenge, we present a monitoring and visualization framework that records fine-grained execution events and organizes them into a directed graph that make agent workflows explicit as they proceed. The system records intermediate steps (e.g. tool calls and code executions), and renders them as real-time updated visual traces that expose workflow structure. This allows domain experts to examine how results are produced, identify where failures emerge, and better understand agent behavior across different stages of the research process.
We conduct an evaluation on complex research tasks with domain experts of interdisciplinary background in AI, neuroscience and biology. Experts report that structured traces visualization improves understanding of agent workflows, perceived interpretability, and usability for analysis and further interaction.

G-D7 Graph of Trace: Visualizing Execution Traces of Scientific Agents

Recruiters and job seekers rely on search systems to navigate labor markets, making candidate matching engines critical for hiring outcomes. Most systems act as keyword filters, failing to handle skill synonyms and nonlinear careers, resulting in missed candidates and opaque match scores. We introduce JobMatchAI, a production-ready system integrating Transformer embeddings, skill knowledge graphs, and interpretable reranking. Our system optimizes utility across skill fit, experience, location, salary, and company preferences, providing factor-wise explanations through resume-driven search workflows. We release JobSearch-XS benchmark and a hybrid retrieval stack combining BM25, knowledge graph and semantic components to evaluate skill generalization. We assess system performance on JobSearch-XS across retrieval tasks, provide a demo video, a hosted website and installable package.

G-D8 JobMatchAI - An Intelligent Job Matching Platform Using Knowledge Graphs, Semantic Search and Explainable AI

We introduce the task of grounded article generation with the goal of creating a Wikipedia-style article from multiple diverse videos about real-world events---from natural disasters to political elections---where all the information in the article is supported by video evidence. Videos are intuitive sources for retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), but most contemporary RAG workflows focus heavily on text while existing methods for video-based summarization focus on low-level scene understanding rather than high-level event semantics. To close this gap, we introduce \dsetname, a benchmark consisting of expert-written articles and densely annotated videos that provide evidence for articles' claims, facilitating the integration of video into RAG pipelines and enabling the creation of in-depth content that is grounded in multimodal sources. We further propose Collaborative Article Generation (CAG), a novel interactive method for article creation from multiple videos. CAG leverages an iterative interaction between an r1-style reasoning model and a VideoLLM to draw higher-level inferences about the target event than is possible with VideoLLMs alone, which fixate on low-level visual features. We benchmark state-of-the-art VideoLLMs and CAG in both oracle retrieval and RAG settings and find that CAG consistently outperforms alternative methods, while suggesting intriguing avenues for future work.

WikiVideo: Article Generation from Multiple Videos

Confidence in LLMs is a useful indicator of model uncertainty and answer reliability. Existing work mainly focused on single-turn scenarios, while research on confidence in complex multi-turn interactions is limited. In this paper, we investigate whether LLM-based search agents have the ability to communicate their own confidence through verbalized confidence scores after long sequences of actions, a significantly more challenging task compared to outputting confidence in a single interaction. Experimenting on open-source agentic models, we first find that models exhibit much higher task accuracy at high confidence while having near-zero accuracy when confidence is low. Based on this observation, we propose Test-Time Scaling (TTS) methods that use confidence scores to determine answer quality, encourage the model to try again until reaching a satisfactory confidence level. Results show that our proposed methods significantly reduce token consumption while demonstrating competitive performance compared to baseline fixed budget TTS methods.

BrowseConf: Confidence-Guided Test-Time Scaling for Web Agents

Large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated significant capabilities in solving mathematical problems expressed in natural language. However, multilingual and culturally-grounded mathematical reasoning in low-resource languages lags behind English due to the scarcity of socio-cultural task datasets that reflect accurate native entities such as person names, organization names, and currencies. Existing multilingual benchmarks are predominantly produced via translation and typically retain English-centric entities, owing to the high cost associated with human annotator-based localization. Moreover, automated localization tools are limited, and hence, truly localized datasets remain scarce. To bridge this gap, we introduce a framework for LLM-driven cultural localization of math word problems that automatically constructs datasets with native names, organizations, and currencies from existing sources. We find that translated benchmarks can obscure true multilingual math ability under appropriate socio-cultural contexts. Through extensive experiments, we also show that our framework can help mitigate English-centric entity bias and improve robustness when native entities are introduced across various languages.

Bridging the Culture Gap: A Framework for LLM-Driven Socio-Cultural Localization of Math Word Problems in Low-Resource Languages

Sentence stress refers to emphasis on words within a spoken utterance to highlight or contrast an idea. It is often used to imply an underlying intention not explicitly stated. Recent speech-aware language models (SLMs) have enabled direct audio processing, allowing models to access the full richness of speech to perform audio reasoning tasks such as spoken question answering. Despite the crucial role of sentence stress in shaping meaning and intent, it remains largely overlooked in evaluation and development of SLMs. We address this gap by introducing StressTest, a benchmark designed to evaluate models' ability to distinguish between meanings of speech based on the stress pattern. We evaluate leading SLMs, and find that despite their overall capabilities, they perform poorly on such tasks. Hence, we propose a novel data generation pipeline, and create Stress-17k, a training set that simulates change of meaning implied by stress variation. Results suggest, that our finetuned model, StresSLM, generalizes well to real recordings and notably outperforms existing SLMs on sentence stress reasoning and detection.  StressTest: Can YOUR Speech LM Handle the Stress?

While recent Multimodal Large Language Models exhibit impressive capabilities for general multimodal tasks, specialized domains like music necessitate tailored approaches. Music Audio-Visual Question Answering (Music AVQA) particularly underscores this, presenting unique challenges with its continuous, densely layered audio-visual content, intricate temporal dynamics, and the critical need for domain-specific knowledge. Through a systematic analysis of Music AVQA datasets and methods, this paper identifies that specialized input processing, architectures incorporating dedicated spatial-temporal designs, and music-specific modeling strategies are critical for success in this domain. Our study provides valuable insights for researchers by highlighting effective design patterns empirically linked to strong performance, proposing concrete future directions for incorporating musical priors, and aiming to establish a robust foundation for advancing multimodal musical understanding. Music Audio-Visual Question Answering Requires Specialized Multimodal Designs

Large language models (LLMs) often exhibit hallucinations due to their inability to accurately perceive their own knowledge boundaries. Existing abstention fine-tuning methods typically partition datasets directly based on response accuracy, causing models to suffer from severe label noise near the decision boundaries and consequently exhibit high rates of abstentions or hallucinations. This paper adopts a latent space representation perspective, revealing a "gray zone" near the decision hyperplane where internal belief ambiguity constitutes the core performance bottleneck. Based on this insight, we propose the **GeoDe** (**Geo**metric **De**noising) framework for abstention fine-tuning. This method constructs a truth hyperplane using linear probes and performs "geometric denoising" by employing geometric distance as a confidence signal for abstention decisions. This approach filters out ambiguous boundary samples while retaining high-fidelity signals for fine-tuning. Experiments across multiple models (Llama3, Qwen3) and benchmark datasets (TriviaQA, NQ, SciQ, SimpleQA) demonstrate that GeoDe significantly enhances model truthfulness and demonstrates strong generalization in out-of-distribution (OOD) scenarios. Purging the Gray Zone: Latent-Geometric Denoising for Precise Knowledge Boundary Awareness

Earth Observation (EO) provides critical planetary data for environmental monitoring, disaster management, climate science, and other scientific domains. In this work we ask: Are AI systems ready for reliable Earth Observation? To answer this, we introduce **UnivEARTH**, a coding benchmark of 408 yes/no questions from NASA Earth Observatory articles across 7 various topics and over 15 satellite instruments and sources. Using Google Earth Engine API as a tool in a zero-shot setup, LLM agents achieve an accuracy of 40.0% where the code fails to run over 44% of the time. To better understand LLM agent behavior, we also analyze the impact of using the JavaScript API versus Python and the effect of providing documentation. Furthermore, we find that using a reflexion framework significantly reduces errors: Claude-4.5-Sonnet, Gemini-2.5-Pro, and GPT-5 accuracies rise to around 60%. However, these results remain only marginally above random chance. Taken together, our findings identify significant challenges to be solved before AI agents can automate earth observation, and suggest paths forward.
